introduce KYC to Harrisonburg Kurdish community

Harrisonburg KYC organized an event on Saturday February 14, 2009 to introduce KYC to Harrisonburg Kurdish community where about 200 people attended. The event was hosted by Ardalan Mahmood, Secretary of Constitution, in Kurdish, Ibrahim Rasul, in English, and it consisted of a statement about KYC in Kurdish by Zana Abdul, General Secretary, a power point slideshow by Shamia Mahmood and Soma Haji in English, which introduced the objective of the KYC in the Harrisonburg community and in general. Different types of folk music and songs were bestowed upon the guests by Ranja Chener, and Younis Haji. An English poem by Dehat Jalil, Activity Coordinator, and Kurdish poems by Avin Mahmood, Educational Promoter, and Ibrahim Rasul were also read. KYC members also arranged dinner for all its guests, in which all the members were at service and strived to satisfy the welcomed guests. Later on in the event, it was time for the KYC members to introduce themselves and their position in KYC. The families of the members were very proud and one of the fathers set foot on stage and gave an inspirational and motivating speech to remind the other guests how important the KYC will be for the community and to support them any way they can. There was also a drawing competition for the children, and three guests were chosen as a judge, the judges were Mr. Shorsh Mustafa, Mr. Mohammad Kareem, and Mr. Haji Sherko to pick out the best three drawings, and   Later on when the three winners of the contest were introduced and awarded a Wal-Mart gift card and a coloring book. All the children received candy as well. For half an hour at the end of the event, the KYC members welcomed the guests to a traditional Kurdish dance. The event was very successful, and a lot of positive feedback was received from the guests.
